NY's super-rich kids get their own nightclub

mirrorball The scions of Manhattan's super-rich families now have a new place to hang out. This weekend, New York saw the opening of the city's first nightclub aimed at teenagers. Crush opens at 9pm and closes at 2am and is set to attract the kind of children who rely on their parents' limousine rather than the school bus to get around town.

The club is the brainchild of New York real-estate mogul Grant Shapolsky and comes complete with burly security guards and the all-important red-rope protecting the club's trendy clientele from less rarified teenagers. 'We want the cool kids, the trendsetters,' says Shapolsky, but he added, 'I do not want to scar anybody.'

'The important thing about teens in New York is that they are their own people with jobs who want to drink energy drinks, not mocktails,' says Lexi Lehman, the club's 17-year-old promoter. 'Teenagers don't want to be exposed to alcohol or older men. It's scary.'
