Buying An Ebay Baby
September 4 2006

Mum sells her child on the internet - tattoos optional

jake - ad space boyAn American mum has found an innovative way to make money at home – she's selling advertising space on her baby. Traci Hogg has advertised space on her 18-month-old child Jake through Ebay and so far she's raised over $1k.

The mother of two came up with the idea after being stopped by people on the street cooing over Jake. 'One day, with all those people cooing over him I just thought, why don’t we get companies to pay to advertise on him?' she told The Sun. 'Not long after we put baby Jake on eBay - he was just five months old.' Within days an American internet company had sponsored young Jake to wear clothes emblazoned with their company logo.

But Traci's plans to make $100,000 from Jake looked unlikely when Ebay chose to ban this kind of auction. Undeterred Traci set up the website www.buyjake.com which now offers Jake as a 'spokesbaby' for companies to sponsor. Unbelievably, Traci has considered covering Jake with temporary tattoos as part of her money-making plans. ' At the moment we are considering putting temporary tattoos on his face,' she says. 'He could have the logo of a company on his cheek or forehead so they could take pictures and things like that.'
