Parenting Skills

Building Relationships

Little girl'A parent's place is in the wrong'.

Whatever you do, sooner or later some expert will tell you that you've done the wrong thing.

At Raisingkids, our view is that most parents do the right thing most of the time, simply because they love their children and care about them more than anyone else can.

Express your love. Make your child feel secure. Build their self esteem. Stay flexible and recognise the time for change as your child grows. Communicate openly and honestly and be confident in your own ability. These are the important things.

This part of the site covers some of the skills that will help you feel more confident.

Essential Skills Include...
Are you getting the answers you want? Learn how to listen to your teenager.

When you talk to your child, are you just hearing or actually understanding what they say?

How to get your child to tell you what's on their mind?

Did you know that the wrong kind of praise is as bad as no praise at all - and what about mistaken beliefs about praise?

If you're arguing, find out how to cope while staying calm and in control. And discover what to do when your relationship with your teen seems to go from bad to worse.
