You're entering the second trimester so it's probably time to admit defeat on the waistline and try on some maternity wear.
Week 13
Baby's length from crown to rump: 65-78 mm.
If you work, it's time to think about telling your workplace that you're pregnant.
Your baby can now reach its mouth which gives the appearance of sucking its thumb. As bone tissue is laid down, a few ribs will emerge and the nose and chin will become more prominent. Bodily functions like mock-breathing, swallowing and urination are starting up now.
Week 14 Baby’s length from crown to rump: 80-113 mm. Welcome to the second trimester!
This is a good time to begin a fitness regime like regular walking, swimming or ante natal fitness classes as your chances of miscarriage have now dramatically dropped, and early pregnancy tiredness and sickness subside.
Your baby’s face is coming together nicely now. The cheeks and the bridge of its nose are very visible. From this week fine hair called ‘lanugo’ will grow all over its body. This will protect the skin and act as an anchor for a waxy substance to cover the foetus in weeks to come.
Week 15 Baby’s length from crown to rump: 9.3-10.3cm. Amniocentesis tests can be done from this week onwards. You’ll probably be growing out of your old clothes now so it’s time to get hold of some maternity wear.
Inside, there are hundreds of blood vessels showing all over your baby’s thin skin. The baby will be growing hair on its eyebrows and head, and is now moving at will, bending elbows and wrists and making little fists.
Week 16 Baby’s length from crown to rump: 10.8-11.6cm.
You may get an AFP test and other screening tests done this week. It’s worth moisturising your tummy and breasts as much as you can now, as they are beginning to stretch.
Your baby can hold their head up now, and pull faces like squinting, frowning, and opening its mouth. Its bones are now thick enough to show up on an x-ray.
