According to the medical profession, there is nothing you can take or rub on that will reduce or prevent stretchmarks. But, as with cellulite treatments, sometimes we just can't help hoping against hope! Here are our members' tips on what worked, or didn't work, for them.
Mapped Out My mum had told me to oil/moisturise my skin daily and I didn't listen. Hence I ended up with the map of Britain on my stomach. My mum had 5 children and got 4 stretchmarks. My friend also oiled her stomach and ended up with none. Raisingkids' Member muminturmoil
Oil Slick Apparently if you use Bio-Oil from early pregnancy, it helps your skin stretch without stretchmarks and also helps with scarring, uneven skintones and old stretchmarks. Raisingkids' Member bonniebeth
No Such Thing! Hate to disappoint people but there is no such thing as a product to prevent stretch marks. It's all down to the type of skin you have. If you have skin with low collagen levels (like me unfortunately!) you will get stretch marks whatever potion you spread on your skin. It's down to genetics; to say that you can prevent them is like saying that if you keep using a face cream you'll never get wrinkles. Impossible. It's a marketing ploy like cream to eliminate cellulite. Won't ever work. Raisingkids' Member katy1
Water Baby Try a long soak in the bath followed by lashings of Bio-Oil and do it while you're pregnant, because afterwards you won't have time. This will only prevent mild stretchmarks. Raisingkids' Member caduto
Cocoa Power I used Palmers cocoa butter throughout my entire pregnancy even before I was showing and I only have two or three very small silver stretch marks just under my belly button....whether this is due to using the cocoa butter I don't know but I'll use it again next time. My friend swears by Clarins stretch mark oil. Raisingkids' Member mammaX1
