Members Tips: What do you call...
Mine know the word vagina, but refer to them as their minis too. I call my son's bits winky or willy! If I had a little girl I think I'd use front
bum. That's what was always said to me as a child. It's much easier to start using the proper name for all parts of the body and not differentiate those that might be considered naughty. It removes taboos and makes it easier to be open and honest. I must admit, I've never liked front bottom, as it is so far off the mark anatomically! My kids will happily mention vagina or fanny or whatever now they are older, but a slightly cuter family name initially will do no lasting damage. My son calls his his winky, which caused great hilarity when we read Wizard of Oz
and Dorothy ended up in the Land of the Winkies! We used to call ours a 'tuppence' when we were little. My boys refer to mine as 'whiskers' and their own parts as 'willies' or 'wibby' (our two-year-old can't say willy). I think softer words which are a bit cuter for little ones are more appropriate. Yes, we're in the 21st century and things are a bit more relaxed nowadays, but some things are still not acceptable. What do you think?
