Members' Tips: Fizzy
Drinks and sleep
It's
difficult enough to get your child to sleep without sugar racing around
their system. What should you avoid in order to ensure silent nights?
Cut out the caffeine
'Caffienated soft drinks can disrupt a child's
sleep and make them drowsy during the day, not to mention the effect on
their teeth and weight'

Healthier alternatives
'Buy things like apple juice and orange juice,
then dilute them like a squash. No E numbers! Milk shouldn't be a main
drink as it is too filling, but if it is given as the only drink after
tea time it does help with sleeping.'

'Ditch the squash altogether. We drink tap water,
mineral water, fruit juices. I make fizzy drinks by mixing juice with
sparkling water. As an occasional treat I buy lemonade but I steer clear
of coloured drinks as they have small boy bouncing off the walls.'
