Members' Tips: Too Much TV?

TV stunts imagination, inhibits intellectual development and should never be used as a 'babysitter'.

But it's a great source of education, world-awareness and encourages social and political development... and it's fun.

Who do you believe? Where do you stand? Is 2 hours a week the limit? Or do your children have TVs in their rooms? What do YOU do?

Controlling their viewing
'I made a simple rule that you may find useful: the TV doesn't go on without reference to the TV listings. I've extended this for my son: if he cant tell me the name of the programme, what it is about or the name of a character, the TV goes off.'

'We were in the same situation, with both our lads wanting the portable TV in their rooms. We got round it by putting it in the kitchen, so that they can watch it in peace, but we can wander in and out, and check what they are watching!! '
