Family Finance:
Save Pennies And Lose Pounds!
If you missed the annual lemming-like dive
into gym membership at the beginning of the year but are still flirting
with the idea of converting your beer belly into a six-pack - hold on!
The
best is yet to come
'If you can hang on till the beginning
of spring you will get a much better deal' said Will Broome, who set up
his own website to help people find a gym in their area.
November and December are the best months to
join a gym. January is, perversely, often the worst, and spring can be
great for bargain-hunters once all the new year resolutioners have faded
away. 'They'll
be desperate to make a deal' says Will.
Top
tips for slimming down gym membership fees
- Act dumb, poor, and uninterested - and watch
those joining fees shrink!
- Make sure you know exactly what you're paying
for for if you want to use the crèche. Get opening times, booking
arrangements and fees spelt out in writing, otherwise you could be signing
up for an ridiculous 3pm-5pm slot you have to book a month in advance.
- Go for cheap and deserted rather than trendy
and crowded if you're a beginner. That way you'll get a personal trainer
to yourself rather than queuing up behind the cast of Sex and the
City.
Looking for a gym in your area?
Click on GymUser
(www.gymuser.co.uk)or,
if you prefer the personal touch, the NRPT
(www.nrpt.co.uk)
will find you a trained registered personal fitness trainer. After
all if you're paying someone to put you through your paces at 7am, it
makes sense to make some concessions to safety.
