Family Finance: Did You Know?

If it's about raising kids... it's here! Why London kids are rich kids, the price of smoking, pension plans and gifts that give twice.

A few financial facts that you might not know...

Baby to buy for?
Instead of dishing out that silver spoon or splashing out on new bootees why not double the feelgood factor by giving the new mother a charity gift voucher. She can choose something she'd really like from Early Learning Centre, John Lewis or ToysRus and 3% of the value of the voucher will go to a charity of your choice.

Give yourself a pay rise
If you smoke 20 a day you can save yourself £2,007.50 a year if you give up tomorrow. In ten years you'd see £20,075 go up in smoke!

Find out how much you'd save if you gave up by using the NHS Quitters Cost Calculator here.

Pension Plans...
Many of us leave it far too late to start saving for a pension. If you want to ensure you're well provided for, click here for the government's pension site offering impartial advice on how to plan for your future www.pensionguide.gov.uk.

Pocket Money Survey
Kids should veto a move to Wales if they're hoping for a rise in pocket money. The annual Halifax pocket money survey for 2006 found that pocket money dipped by 114% year on year for Welsh children to an average of just £6.30 from £15.41. By contrast, the clear pocket money winners were children living in London who pocket £11.71 every week on average.
