Save That Tax!

If it's about raising kids... it's here!

Happy New Financial Year now wave goodbye to £95.

Every year, nine out of ten us us will give the taxman an average of £95 more than we have to simply because we're not clued up enough about our financial affairs.

In many cases it wouldn't even cost us a penny. For example, just two minutes filling in an R85 form from the bank or Post Office would save 5/1 million people on low incomes (non tax payers) about £62 each.

Sticking to the January 31st deadline for self-assessment tax forms would stop 800,000 of us being fined £100 each.

Mr Taxman
'Most of us wouldn't willingly gift the taxman hundreds of pounds of our hard-earned money, but in many cases this is just what's happening,' said David Elms of IFA Promotion.

'People need to step back and see if they're being as tax-efficient as they could be, and, if not, take action to streamline their finances.'

But how can you get help?
Choosing an Independent Financial Advisor (IFA) is a good start. No-one can guarantee that the person offering you financial advice is going to make you rich but now you can at least guarantee that he or she has done at least some of their homework.

Before an independent financial adviser is allowed by their professional watchdog the Financial Services Authority, they are required to pass an exam called the Financial Planning Certificate (FPC). It doesn't guarantee ability, honesty or financial acumen but it's a pretty good start.
