Feature: 24 Tips For Christmas With Kids

The countdown to Christmas starts here! Our seasonal suggestions should help ensure a stress-free festive season for you and your family.

1. Get organised
Christmas Day will run much more smoothly if you prepare for it in advance. Make a to-do list at the beginning of December. Review it daily, crossing out what's been done and add anything new.

2. Stick to your budget
Christmas is a time for unrealistic expectations to come to the fore. New computers, mobile phones, digital cameras... you name it, someone will want it. Make sure family members are aware of how much or how little you can afford and don't overspend. Involve your children in the discussion if they are old enough. It will teach them the basics of budgeting and they'll appreciate their gifts more if they realise that they don't just appear by magic!

3. Get all the family involved
Christmas can be overwhelming if everything's left up to one individual. Delegate responsibilities to other family members. Not only will this ease the burden on yourself it will involve all the family. Even the youngest child can be encouraged to take part - even if it's just picking cards.

4. Don't miss the post
Make sure parcels and presents for far-away relatives and friends are dealt with first. Your local Post Office will have the deadline dates for posting or you can find out online at www.royalmail.com. Allocate one night for writing cards and get everyone to help.

5. Make decorating fun
Play Christmas music (or any favourite music) and let your children pick the decorations for their bedroom. You can reward them for their help with a favourite meal either in or out.

6. Play safe with your Christmas tree
Get rid of as many dead needles as you can before putting the tree up. Keep the tree away from fireplaces and heating appliances. Be careful with extension cords. Don't use too many and don't leave them under carpets or rugs or in anyone's way.
