Beware! Gosties and goulies might not be the
only things going bump in the night.
Outside safety
Clean up outside the house. Don't leave anything
out like ladders, hoses, flowerpots or anything a child could trip over.
Look after your pets. They can get easily
scared or frightened and may even try to bite a strangely-garbed 'intruder.'
Use battery-powered candles if you can. If
you do insist on using a real flame, place pumpkins well away from where
people are standing or sitting.
Indoor precautions
Make sure paper and/or cloth decorations are
kept well away from a naked flame.
Consider healthy alternatives to sweets and
chocolate. Low-fat crackers, single-serving cereals and low-fat popcorn,
mini-boxes of raisins and packaged fruit rolls will go down well.
Be allergy-aware and check with parents before
offering treats likely to cause a reaction (nuts, milk chocolate, and
artificially-coloured sweets and drinks are common troublemakers).
You don't have to give food as a treat. Pencils,
stickers, books and comics will be just as appreciated and will last
longer.
Follow these rules and it should be a happy Halloween
for everyone.
