Begin at the beginning
The first modern Father's Day celebration took place on 19 June 1910, in the US. Father's Day in the UK is celebrated on the third Sunday of June which this year falls on 15th June.
Facts and figures
There are 1.5bn fathers worldwide. Each year, 122m children are born (but not all to first-time fathers). DR Congo has the world's highest birth-rate.
Mums vs Dads
13 million Mother's Day cards are sent every year, compared to only 7 million Father's Day cards.
Oldest and youngest
The world's youngest father is a 6 yr old from China. The UK's youngest is Sean Stewart (12). Les Colley (92 yrs 10 months) was the world's oldest dad.
Shame on schools
In a recent Raisingkids.co.uk poll, 83% of parents said that schools should celebrate Father's Day just as they celebrate Mother's Day.
