Family Fun: Taking Time Out With Your Kids

family eating togetherParents and kids lead incredibly busy lives these days. After-school activities, playdates and work commitments mean it's all too easy to find weeks slipping past without spending any real time together. We asked our readers to tell us how they liked to spend their precious family time together and this is what they came up with.

Muddy, but happy!
Get out of the house with the kids - feed the ducks, play Pooh sticks - sometimes the best fun is to be had in seeing who can find the biggest puddle.

King of the castle
We like to make and decorate biscuits, go for walks on the beach, make castles out of blankets and get extremely messy with paints and anything else that's laying around!

Home cinema
If the weather's bad, we make our own cinema club, rustle up a big bowl of popcorn, close the curtains and curl up with a good DVD.

Take aim
If you've got older kids or teenagers (and are brave enough) try a Shooting Day - make up homemade catapaults and put up targets in the garden.

Drive time
Get in the car, drive for 45 mins ( or as long as you can) towards the countryside, and get totally lost in the great outdoors. Or join the National Trust for fantastical special days.

Read all about it
Buy the kids some disposable cameras, get them to take as many snaps as they can and then put together a newpaper (aka scrapbook) on what they got up to during the half term or holiday.
