Easter: Members' Tips - Holiday Destinations
Where's
a good bet for a fun family holiday? Raisingkids.co.uk members have some
tried-and-tested tips.
Hit the road!
'We are a family of 6 (4 children ages between
2 and 12) and we are totally hooked on Eurocamp, Canvas Holidays and Haven
Europe (depending on the price for that year). They all offer a choice
of tents or mobile homes. The sites are full of things to do and the price
is very reasonable. We've taken them to Spain, all over France and Italy
as far as Florence and Rome. If we had to pay for flights and hotels we
could never afford it, but being able to drive at your leisure, choose
several campsites to stay at and keep all of the children entertained
is fantastic. Try it - you'll not regret it!'

'If you fancy going abroad AND like Haven-type
campsites, I can thoroughly recommend Eurosites or Keycamp holidays. Haven
also have sites all over France, though I would agree with earlier postings
that your kids are made to feel very special everywhere they go in Italy
- we went to the Venetian Riviera last year and had a fab time.'

French connection
'I used to be a travel agent and went on
a Eurosites holiday to France. I can highly recommend it! Although I had
no kids then there is loads to do, and the caravans are fantastic - like
apartments! There are loads of families so the kids will always find someone
to hang with.'

'A friend of mine used to take her kids to a
Gite in France every year and said that it was brilliant. Another option
is camping, which again I have heard is very good. They always travel
over on the Chunnel.'

Closer to home
'I went to a Haven holiday site in Wales earlier
this year, and it was brilliant, so I imagine it would be good abroad
as well. There is loads to do for kids as well as adults, we didn't have
enough time there!'

'Take a look through the Hoseasons Lodges and
Cottages they have some lovely sites in there and I have visited quite
a few of them over the years. I have also been to Center Parcs and would
recommend that to anyone, it has something for all to do there'

'I've had some really good holidays with the
kids at Butlins. I've finally realised, after a few mistakes, that if
you really want to enjoy your holiday, you should go somewhere where there
is loads to keep the kids happy. If the kids are happy you will be too.
I have rented cottages in this country, but some of them are full of knick-knacks
and things you don't want little hands getting hold of. The first thing
I normally do when I get there is totally rearrange the place!'

Budget bargains
'We took our son to Fuertaventura, a few months
later we took him to Gran Canaria, three months later we went to Greece
and last summer we went to Turkey. No, we have not got a truck full of
money they were all bargains off Teletext and we ate loads of sandwiches
and snacks. Never ate ice-cream at the beach and stuck to a strict budget
but have loads of sunshine filled fun. It can be done HONEST we budget
for a few months to go but have such a great time we do not mind budgeting
until the next time we can afford to go.'

'My son is 4 and has now been to Cuba, Dominican
Republic, Mexico, Majorca and Margarita. I am not loaded, I am a single
mum but go away with my mother as well and book last minute and get bargains.'
