Easter: Budget Family Breaks

Family travel budgets are a tricky thing to write about. The size of one family's budget for a fortnight's holiday, might be what another family would spend on a weekend break. With that in mind, we've come up with a range of hotels where a family of four can have a weekend away for under £400.*

alton towers hotel Alton Towers Resort
Staffordshire

As you'd expect from a hotel linked to one of the country's top family attractions, the Alton Towers Resort is supremely family friendly. What's more your stay here includes access to the hotel's leisure centre – and sometimes includes entry into the park as well. There's even entertainment thrown in at night in the form of lavish stage shows.
Cost: Family room with double bed and a bunk bed, breakfast included - £337.20
Click here for the Alton Towers Resort website.

beadnell towers hotel Beadnell Towers Hotel
Northumbria
Just a few minutes walk from the Northumberland coast, the Beadnell Towers is that rare beast – a small, welcoming family hotel where both the bedrooms and food are top-notch. It's also a great setting for a family break. Nine miles down the road is the Alnwick Gardens with the world's best treehouse playground for kids.
Cost: Family room, breakfast included - £251.80
Click here for the Beadnell Towers Hotel website.

kingsmills hotel Kingsmills Hotel
Inverness
No, it's nothing to do with the bread, but this family hotel is in a brilliant spot if you've got a family with active kids. Situated just a mile outside Inverness city centre, the hotel's well-placed for a vist to the Kincraig Wildlife Park, trips on the lake and when the weather's playing up, the nearby Inverness Aquadrome.
Cost: Family room with double bed and bunk bed, including breakfast and leisure club access - £356
Click here for the Kingsmills Hotel website.

priory inn tetbury Priory Inn, Tetbury
Gloucestershire
This award-winning country inn does its best to make families welcome. Helpful touches include children's books and games in reception and a kids menu that includes make-your-own pizzas. It's also handy to know that most baby monitors work when you're eating downstairs in the gastropub.
Cost: Family suite with two bedrooms and a shared bathroom, buffet breakfast included – £318
Click here for the Priory Inn website.

riverdale house Riverdale House
East Sussex
All the rooms at this family-run B&B are lovely, but what gives Riverdale House its X factor is the
Lie-In service it offers. For £60 per family per night's stay you can avail yourself of two hours early morning babysitting between 6.30am and 9.30am. What more need we say?
Cost: The Heselwood room has a double bed and separate sitting room which can turn into a room for the kids, breakfast included - £240
Click here for the Riverdale House website.

Shoreline hotel Shoreline Hotel, Bognor Regis
West Sussex
When they opened the Shoreline Hotel, Butlins brought itself firmly into the 21st century. The standard rooms here have partial views of the sea and are freshly decorated with bunk beds for the kids and a TV and DVD player to keep them happy. Weekends here include an Experience Pass giving access to a range of activities and entertainment.
Cost: Columbus quarters with patio for three nights Friday to Monday, breakfast included -£360.45
Click here for the Shoreline Hotel website.

premier inn tower bridge Tower Bridge Premier Inn
London
Taking the family to London can be financially crippling which makes the rates at this Premier Inn all the more surprising. Perfectly situated just a 10 minute walk from the river, this hotel is great for a family tourist base. Best of all, your stay includes a family Days Out voucher for free entry to a London attraction.
Cost: Family room with 'eat as much as you like' breakfast included - £206
Click here for the Premier Inn website.

* Our figures are based on a Friday and Saturday night stay for a family of four in one room in early June 2008. We researched this article in February 2008.
