Because, surveys have consistently found that the more
often children and teenagers eat dinner with their families,
the less likely they are to smoke, drink and use illegal
substances.1

Because, research shows that family meals strengthen the
family by providing opportunities for communications and
building relationships.2

Because, family meals lead to better nutrition, as parents
have more control over quality and quantity of the family's
food choices.3

Because, children who eat with their families have longer
conversations with their parents, which can increase their
linguistic abilities, giving them an edge in the classroom.

Because, eating as a family fosters family traditions and
family culture and research shows that kids who know more
about their families are more resilient.4

Because, children adopt their parents' attitudes to food and
acceptable table manners at the family table.5

Because, in the Raisingkids State of the Nation's Parents,
86% of parents surveyed said that eating together as a family
on a regular basis was the best way to improve family life
and children's behaviour.6
