Seal The School Gates!
Jamie Oliver wants lunchtime trips banned
In response to the numbers of secondary school pupils taking school lunch dropping dramatically, school dinners guru Jamie Oliver believes he has the answer. The celebrity chef wants to ban pupils from leaving the school grounds at lunchtime. Oliver thinks that schools need to prevent kids from leaving the school in order to remove the lure of nearby fast food places.
The chef has made public his support for Denbighshire county council which is considering such a ban in its schools. ' It will be interesting to see how the Denbighshire situation progresses,' he told reporters. 'But, to keep kids in school, food has to be tasty, there has to be a good dining room, not too crowded, and kids have to have enough time to eat during the break.'
'I also think that, if the kids won't come to you, schools should take the food to them with satellite kitchens that can go in the playground.'
