Wellington Pub, Wellington, Herefordshire

Voted the best Sunday Roast 2006 by PubChef magazine, The Wellington offers excellent food, sourced locally, in an lovely rural setting. There's a play area/family room to keep the kids happy, but the main reason to come here is the fabulous Sunday lunch which at £15 for three courses is a bargain. Expect to see something like roast topside of Hereford Cross beef, with Yorkshire puddings, fresh thyme and fresh horseradish cream and roast leg of Welsh white pork with sage and apple stuffing and apple sauce on the menu.

The Pilgrims Restauraunt in Battle, East Sussex

Tai Pan, Liverpool

Join hundreds of other Liverpudlians every Sunday happily tucking into some of the freshest dim-sum to be found in Britain. This massive, glitzy restaurant can seat 250 people any time and is particularly busy on Sunday when waiters nip in and out of the tables with groaning trolleys packed full of dumplings, lotus buns and other foodie delights, all sourced from the massive Chinese supermarket beneath the restaurant.

Manna, Primrose Hill

Vegetarians often luck out with Sunday lunch but not at this award-winning vegetarian menu. The chef's salad is here to die for - full of all the things you'd never be bothered to make yourself such as feta or crispy marinated tofu, new potatoes in basil mayonnaise, balsamic roasted onions, greek butter bean salad, caper berries, alfalfa sprouts and toasted seeds, and salad leaves. Sunday lunch is blowout time, with everything from the chef's vegetarian roast special, to more obscure (and delicious food) such as courgette flower & blue cheese tart. Bucks Head Inn, Dundrum, Ireland

People come for miles to enjoy one of the Bucks Head's Sunday lunches. Well-cooked roasts, complete with all the trimmings are finished off with homemade puddings at this cosy eighteenth century inn. And, if all the calories are sitting heavily on your stomach, take the family off for a walk in the Mourne Mountains to burn off that excess energy.
