Nutrition Expert: Does my toddler drink too much milk?
When should you worry about a toddler's milk intake? Nutrition expert Emer Delaney looks at the issue.
Raisingkids member's problem
I have a two-year-old who drinks about two pints of milk a day. He drinks most of this before he goes to sleep and won't go to bed without a drink. He sleeps all night. I was just concerned that he was drinking too much milk and whether it is good for him or not. He eats like a normal child and I don't have any worries about food just the milk situation.
Nutrition Expert Emer's Advice
Milk is a great source of calcium which is a very important mineral that protects bones and teeth. Having an adequate calcium intake will help your son remain strong and healthy. However, two pints is a large quantity to drink before bed!
Once your son is having a varied and balanced diet, I wouldn't be too concerned. Ensure he is having regular meals with healthy snacks on a daily basis. Once he is a healthy weight and is active, I wouldn't be too worried, although you might want to reduce the intake before bed with an eye to having to do night-time toilet training.
