Online Midwife: Are my headaches migraines?

woman with a headache How do you know if the headaches you get during pregnancy are normal or not? Our midwife looks at the issue.

Raisingkids member's problem
I'm 13 weeks pregnant and for the last three weeks have been getting really bad migraines they just hit me they don't come on slowly. I have never suffered from headaches before and was wondering if it is due to the pregnancy and whether I need to get checked out by the doctor?

Midwife Genevieve Kingston's Advice
Early pregnancy headaches are awful, but also fairly common I'm afraid. Make sure it's not something like needing glasses or having the prescription for your lenses changed, or that it's due to overhead lighting or computer screens. If it's none of these the headaches will resolve by themselves. It's safe to take paracetomol in the prescribed amounts. And do make sure you're drinking enough water.
