Online Midwife: Normal delivery after c-section

c-section delivery After two harrowing labours, both
c-sections, a reader is wondering whether she'll be able to have a natural labour next time.

Raisingkids member's problem
Can you offer any advice about giving birth naturally after having had two c-sections? I'm 23 and I have a two year old born in June 2005 and a four month old born in June 2007. My first was a c-section because I couldn't feel anything due to the epidural which meant I couldnt push her properly. The second I had because I was told to. I'm going to wait for a few years before having another baby but I really want to try for a natural birth. I just can't get over the births and am seeking medication and counselling. I just want to know if it is possible to try naturally.

Midwife Genevieve Kingston's Advice
There are different schools of thought regarding natural birth after having had two c-sections. But having found testimonies from women who have had more than one c-section and gone on to have a natural delivery, I would say that it is something that shouldn't be ruled out immediately.

More care needs to be taken during labour and it's unlikely that the obstetricians would be happy to induce you but if you went into spontaneous labour, I think (especially in a few years time!) that you would be at least able to try for a natural delivery.
