Online Midwife: Pregnancy symptoms have gone

thoughtful woman When the symptoms of pregnancy disappear should you be worried? Our midwife offers reassurance.

Raisingkids member's problem
I am 14 weeks pregnant and really not showing at all yet. My symptoms all went about a week ago and I am really worrying about missed miscarriages. I had one miscarriage before at 6 weeks, but I knew about it, it was painful with lots of bleeding. Should I be concerned that I'm not showing? I'm 5'8" and a size 18 so I guess it might be hiding under my stomach. The only sign of anything is that if I lie on my front it's getting a bit uncomfortable, as if I am lying 'on' something? Because I had bleeding at 5 weeks I had an early scan at 7 weeks which showed a heartbeat and I don't get another scan now till 20 weeks, which seems a lifetime to wait to know all is okay...

Midwife Genevieve Kingston's Advice
At some point the horrible morning sickness usually goes. It's normal.
Sometimes it can cause concern especially if you have had a previous miscarriage. You don't say if this is your first baby - some women take a lot longer to show in their first pregnancy, and yes, weight can hide the bump.

The fact that you are finding it uncomfortable lying on your front tells me that the uterus is enlarged and that there is definitely something in it!

It's not common to feel movements this early on, especially in a first pregnancy, more like 22-24 weeks. I don't think you've had a miscarriage.
