Online Midwife: Implantation Or Miscarriage?

distressed woman Is a show of blood at just seven weeks something to be concerned about? Our midwife advises...

Raisingkids member's problem
I am 7 weeks pregnant and yesterday started to show a light brown liquid. It is really only slightly there and a very light brown but don't know what I should do or if I should be worrying. I only went to my doctor on Tuesday to confirm the pregnancy, so I don't have contact with a local midwife for advice yet.

My first pregnancy ended with a miscarriage which is why I'm fretting more as I don't want to wait to the 12 week scan to find out that the embryo has not survived and have to have a D & C which I did last time. I do have a little boy who's 4 and had no complications or showing during that pregnancy. I would be really grateful for a reply as I am worrying myself sick.

Midwife Genevieve Kingston's Advice
A lot of women have a slight bloody discharge at around eight weeks into their pregnancy. It is when the placenta implants into the uterine wall. Also if the blood is brown then it is old blood. It is a concern when the blood is pink/ red.

A lot of hospitals have an early pregnancy unit where they could scan you before 12 weeks to check on your baby. If you ring up your GP's practice, speak to the receptionist and tell her that you are early on in your pregnancy and you have had a small bleed. That is usually enough information to get the receptionist either to make you an urgent appointment with the doctor or to have the doctor ring you.
