Online Midwife: Why Can't I Feel The Baby Kick?

concerned woman Nineteen weeks into her pregnancy, should you be able to feel the baby kick? Our midwife advises...

Raisingkids member's problem
I am 19 weeks pregnant with my second child and haven't felt it kick yet and haven't really felt any movements yet. But at my antenatal appointment a week ago the midwife found the heart beat. Why can't I feel any movements?

Midwife Genevieve Kingston's Advice
It is probably because the baby is lying at the back of your womb and so when it does move you don't feel it as it isn't kicking/touching anything of you that would pass the message back.

Some women do feel their second babies earlier than their first, but it's not a sign of anything being wrong if you don't. By the time you are 24-26 weeks I would be expecting you to feel it, but at 19 weeks I would have to say that it wouldn't concern me that you haven't. If the heartbeat is strong there shouldn't be any problems.
