Ask Our Experts: Out-of-School Childcare

School desk & chair What's the best way to find after-school childcare? Raisingkids.co.uk's Education expert, Elizabeth Cook.

Raisingkids member's problem
I cannot seem to find any childcare which will look after my children after school. Most are unwilling to work after 5.30pm.I live in the Matlock area of Derbyshire and face having to give up work if I can't find after-school care. Who can I turn to for guidance, lists or advice?

Elizabeth's advice
There are several avenues that you might explore but first, try ringing Derbyshire Early Years & Childcare Partnership on 01629 585 585 or see Derbyshire County Council website for their details. They should be able to tell you what's available in terms of out-of-school care, or give you a list of childminders in your area willing to pick up children from school and care for them in their home until collected. You do not say how long you want your children to be looked after or how old they are, but most childminders are usually very flexible. This is certainly an avenue worth exploring. But please get back to me if this does not solve your problem.
