Our Experts: Toddler Wetting Himself Again
Just when you think you've got toilet-training sussed, your toddler
starts peeing in his pants all over again. Don't panic, recommends parenting
expert and child psychologist Dr Pat Spungin, CEO of Raisingkids.co.uk.

member's problem
My 2½ year-old son has just regressed with his toilet-training.
He goes to crèche and is fine there - he asks to go to the toilet
all the time whenever he needs it. At the moment when he comes home, he
doesn't ask to go, he just wets himself. We are in the process of packing
to move home but we're involving him in everything we do (making the boxes,
packing his toys, labelling the boxes, etc.) so we're at a bit of a loss
as to what might be causing it. Have you got any ideas?
PS He's been toilet-trained for about 3 months without a single accident
(even when we've been to the seaside or out for the whole day).
Dr Spungin's advice
It's clear to me that your son's regression is tied up with moving home.
Imagine how it appears to a 2½ year-old. His house and his room is
his world, and now it's all changing. He may have fears that you'll go
without him, fears about the new house, he may have ideas about why you're
packing things away and where its all going, and because he so young he
can't express this and you can't calm his fears.
I would expect that once he settles into his new house, when you've unpacked
all his loved and familiar things, and made his room as much like his
old one as possible, and he sees mum and dad aren't going anywhere without
him that he'll settle down.
