Development 7-9 Yrs: Tall Girls, Short Boys
Now this changes dramatically as the girls suddenly develop very rapidly. Boys can be up to 2 years behind them and as the girls in their class shoot past them, boys wonder why they are so much shorter than some of their peers. Girls are growing fast...It's normal for most boys to be short than the girls at this age. If a boy is small to begin with, he may despair that he will never catch up. Point out to your son that the height difference is primarily based on gender. Explain that his growth spurt will come later and he'll end up taller than most of the girls. Some girls begin to show signs of early puberty The growth spurt is due to an increase in hormone production and will lead to gradually increasing curves, including breast swelling. Menstruation usually follows about 2 years later but given the unpredictability of actual onset, it's a good idea to discuss it with your daughter early. Increased
muscle strength and coordination Make the most of it! |
