Tackling An Aggressive Preschooler

Your toddler's motor control has made huge strides Prevention is better than cure, so watch your toddler carefully to find out what provokes aggressive behaviour. Once you've identified the triggers, it's so much easier to stop it happening.

Make sure he isn't tired and hungry when the guests arrive and don't assume that your son will automatically like your friends' children! Try to keep the number of children you have to visit at any one time down to a minimum.

Keep calm!
When children play together they can easily whip themselves up into a frenzy! Watch them to make sure that they don't get over-excited. If you see they are getting out of control, suggest something to distract and calm them like a drink, something to eat or maybe watching some television.

Communication foundations
Your son uses violence because he can't express himself properly. Talk to him and help him to learn how to express himself. If he is picking on smaller children, invite older children to play.

Parklife
Meeting on neutral ground helps. Arrange to meet in the park or at an indoor play centre. Running around in the fresh air can work off a lot of energy, aspecially if your child has been cooped up at home all day. Your toddler may find friends less of a threat if there's space to run around.
