Development 3-5 Yrs: Accidents Can Happen

As your child's abilities grow, he becomes increasingly eager to have his contributions recognized As your child's abilities grow, he becomes increasingly eager to have his contributions recognized.

Praise him for his efforts, whenever he tries to do things for himself or tries to 'help' you.

Although you can certainly do most things faster yourself, it's important to build his confidence and skills.

Nobody's perfect!
Most children achieve both day and night toilet control before they are 5, although there may be occasional accidents, often due to sickness. Some children become so involved in what they're doing, that they delay their trip to the loo, and suddenly discover that it's too late.

Still wet at night?
A small percentage, often boys, continue to wet the bed regularly at night. This can be very distressing for the child, and it's worth consulting your doctor. Meanwhile, try to be patient. Your child is certainly not wetting the bed on purpose and is probably as eager as you to find a solution.
