Development
18-24 Months: Running & Tumbling
Your toddler is becoming steady on her feet, although she may still
fall when running.
She
loves to be active and enjoys games that involve kicking or throwing balls,
swinging or dancing.
Your
toddler is continuously active and loves to run around the house or garden.
She can kick and throw a ball. By 24 months, she may be able to walk upstairs
upright, holding the banister and she can come downstairs upright, 2 feet
to each step.
She's
also gaining better control of her hands and can throw a small object
with some accuracy.
Parklife!
She enjoys trips to the park and loves to be pushed on the swing. Some
toddlers learn to pedal a tricycle as they approach 2 years, though most
still propel themselves along with their feet on the floor.
Hand control is improving
Your toddler can now manage basic grooming
tasks, including washing her hands and face and brushing her hair. She
may learn to put on some clothes but won't be able to cope with buttons.
She can turn pages and draw vertical lines on paper. She can also open
a magazine and point to familiar things and is showing a preference for
one hand (left or right) over the other.
