Development 18-24 Mths: Time For Toilet-Training?

Grrrrrr... She can tell you when she has wet or soiled herself. Toddlers vary in their readiness for toilet training at this stage.

Some develop early control and are eager to use the grown-up toilet. Others gain control over their bowels but still have little control over their bladders. Some will be older than two years before they are ready. Boys, in particular, are often later.

Ready for potty-training?
Some parents successfully introduce toilet-training during this stage. Many toddlers still don't have effective control over their bladders and until they do, there is no point in forcing the issue. Children develop at different stages, particularly in the early years.

It's not a race
Try not to turn the issue into a battle - when your toddler is ready, she will soon respond. Remember that by the time they are ready for school, almost all children are clean and dry, day and night.
