Ask Our Members About... Staying Out Late

Is your teen or pre-teen a night owl?Are your children demanding to be allowed to go out all night and come home with the milk-float?

If you're having trouble setting a reasonable curfew or maybe feel your child is just to young for late hours, here are a few suggestions for keeping them at home without seeming like a spoilsport.

This issue is a tough one so if you have any suggestions, please send them in!

Pre-teen party animals
'... offer the alternative of bringing friends back home at a reasonable hour. We had available a liberal supply of soft drinks, lots of snacks and a good CD player and we went into another room and left them alone. The noise went on until around 12.30 at which time either parents collected their daughters or I and my daughter took the girls home.

The other parents were relieved to know where their daughters were and soon offered the same arrangement. When boyfriends entered the scene some time later, the system was established and accepted, which gave us some peace of mind.'

'I have always used an "open house" policy where my children can bring their friends round and feel that home is home - somewhere they feel they can relax and have fun.'
