Signs & Symptoms Of Bulimia

Image How can you identify bulima?

The list of common symptoms below are a useful guide. But, as with any other serious health issue, always seek professional advice at the first opportunity.

Changes in eating habits
Binge eating is invariably done in a secret solitary manner. Large quantities of fatty, sweet or starchy foods are eaten in a short time.

Parents may find biscuits, ice cream, tinned food, jams, bread or whole jars of peanut butter, have suddenly disappeared. They may find food hidden in cupboards or bins full of wrappers from chocolate, biscuit or other foodstuffs. Eating habits may change with bulimics shunning family dinners, claiming they are not hungry or have already eaten.

Physical changes
Constant vomiting deprives the sufferer of proteins, carbohydrates and potassium, causing dehydration and constipation. Parents may notice that their daughter's skin looks dry and her face puffy.

Other signs
You may see signs in the bathroom and toilet of forced vomiting. There is also the distinctive smell of vomit, which the bulimic may attempt to mask with sprays.
