Ask Our Experts: Sterilising Baby's Bottles

Hygiene is very important during the first year of your life! Raisingkids.co.uk's nutrition expert, paediatric dietitian, David Swain has some advice on how long parents need to continue sterilising a baby's bottles.

Raisingkids member's query
Please could you let me know how old my baby needs to be before I can stop sterilising her bottles?

David's advice
Because warm milk is such a good breeding ground for bacteria, it is recommended that you should continue to sterilise bottles and teats until your baby is 12 months old. After her first birthday, your baby can progress on to ordinary full-fat cows' milk as the main drink, so long as she is thriving and eating a well-balanced diet.
