There's a knack to everything and bottle-feeding is no exception.
There are many different brands of baby formula,
including those suitable for babies with allergies.
Shop around before the baby is born to avoid
chopping and changing brands in the first few weeks.
A few tricks of the trade...
Choose a slow-flow teat for newborns.
Experiment with different teats, until you
find one your baby likes.
Buy small packs of ready-to-drink formula
to keep by the bed.
Invest in bottles that use a disposable bag
to hold the milk.Their teats can be stored in portable containers nest
to your bed. This way making up the bottle will take less than a minute.
Buy a small cold bag and ice block to keep
milk in overnight.
Bottle warmers are extremely slow. If the
water in the tank is piping hot, hold the bottle under the tap to warm
it.
Alternatively, buy a second kettle to keep
in the bedroom. Some travel kettles can be plugged into a shaver point.
Cold-water sterilizers may look old-fashioned
but are the most efficient method of sterilising.
Buy more bottles than you think you'll need.
If you have plenty of bottles, you'll always have a sterile one at hand.
Don't forget Always read and follow the instructions
very carefully when making up formula and sterilising bottles.
