Development 10-12 Mths: Copycat!

I want to be like you! Your baby is eager to grow up and wants to copy everyone around her. She is charming and willful and good fun.

She tries to feed and dress herself and imitate other actions. She isn't quite able to do many of these things, and expresses her frustration forcefully. She is gaining a sense of humour and can be an amusing companion, as she follows you around the house chattering in gibberish.

Just like Mum and Dad!
She tries to imitate adult actions, gestures and sounds. Give her a toy phone and she will hold it to her ear and talk into it very seriously. If she has brushes, pots and pans and a bowl of water, she will diligently wash her dishes. Give her a spoon at mealtimes. She will make a mess but will soon get the hang of it.

Make the most of it
Help her learn as she copies you. Give her a fat crayon and paper while you are writing. She enjoys looking at pictures and scribbling and is now able to spend more time on quiet activities.
