Development 2-3 Mths: Giggling & Grabbing

IMAGE: Now your baby discovers her hands - you'll notice your baby's fists are uncurling more and her grasp shows more control. Newborns tend to work on reflex but by 3 months your baby should be giggling, gurgling and grabbing.

As she loses the newborn 'curled position' and lies flat, she'll learn to roll over - and needs careful watching! Although many movements are still not under her control, from 2 months onwards, she may begin 'swiping' for objects.

Smash and grab
By 3 months, she may have lost the reflex grasp entirely and be reaching for objects. Now your baby discovers her hands - and her mouth. You'll notice your baby's fists are uncurling more and her grasp shows more control. She may hold things for a moment and will lift them to her mouth to suck. Anything she grabs is likely to end up in her mouth so keep small items well away.

Smile!
At around 2 months, your baby will reward you with that wonderful first smile! She'll also begin to coo and gurgle and may laugh out loud by 3 months.
